Transforming Waste

Transforming discarded cans
into artworks worth holding onto

View Available Works

I create artworks from discarded aluminum cans.

Each piece is built by hand, one element at a time, transforming what people throw away into something meaningful and lasting.

My work explores repetition, light and the quiet beauty hidden in ordinary materials.

The Story

Having lived in several countries and traveled extensively, I have seen how easily everyday objects become waste. Aluminum cans in particular are everywhere. In cities, along roads, on beaches and in nature.

Rather than seeing them only as trash, I began to see them differently. Their colors, their reflections and the way they catch the light suggested another possibility.

Today I collect discarded cans from the street, from nature and from people around me who save them for me. Each one becomes a small element in a larger composition.

Through repetition, patience and light, these fragments of everyday waste are transformed into artworks that invite us to look again at what we usually overlook.

A Moment to Slow Down

In a world that moves increasingly fast, these artworks invite a different rhythm.

Hundreds of reflective aluminum discs interact with light and perspective, creating subtle visual changes as the viewer moves around them.

This slow transformation encourages a moment of pause. A moment to observe, to breathe and to reconnect with the present.

What was once discarded becomes something worth contemplating.

From Discarded Cans to Artwork

1. Collection

Each artwork begins with discarded cans collected from the street, from nature or from people around me who save them for me.

2. Preparation

The aluminum is cut into small reflective aluminum discs that are carefully prepared for assembly.

3. Assembly

Hundreds of reflective aluminum discs are carefully placed one by one onto wood, gradually forming geometric compositions.

4. Completion

Through repetition and patience, the surface becomes a luminous structure that changes depending on the angle and surrounding light.

Artist Bio

Stéphane Vice

Stéphane Vice is a contemporary artist whose work transforms discarded aluminum cans into textured, light-responsive artworks.

Collecting materials from streets, nature, and everyday environments, he works with objects that have already completed their first life. Through a meticulous process of cutting, shaping, and assembling hundreds of small aluminum discs by hand, these fragments of waste are reconfigured into structured compositions that shift with light and movement.

Repetition is central to his practice. The accumulation of identical elements creates surfaces that vibrate subtly as the viewer moves, revealing changing reflections and patterns. What was once disposable becomes something contemplative and enduring.

At the core of Vice's work is a simple but powerful idea: value is often hidden in what we overlook. By transforming discarded materials into works of art, he invites viewers to slow down, pay attention, and rediscover the quiet beauty within ordinary things.

I transform what's been thrown away into something worth holding onto.
